Hi8us South is committed to giving young people the opportunity to learn and express themselves through the creation of innovative participatory media. We develop creative media and arts projects across a range of platforms, including interactive websites, short films and digital feature films.

Our core aims are:

  • to reach young people at risk of social exclusion to enable them to articulate their experiences;
  • to enable young people to use the experience of creating media as a catalyst for change in their own lives and in their communities;
  • to create groundbreaking television, film & new media through a collaboration between media professionals and non-professional participants.

Our work is youth-led and grows out of established partnerships with youth and educational services and the media industry at local and national level. Personal and social outcomes are given equal weight to skills development around media, employability and professional development.

Our team of professional practitioners includes many who have come from the communities that we work in and, through our programmes, have emerged to work at the highest levels of the media industries. Imbued with our processes, their personal experience makes a significant contribution to the efficacy our work. The collaboration between media professionals and non-professional participants also ensures broadcast standard media content capable of reaching wide audiences, informing debate and shaping policy and contributing to raising self-esteem in the participants.

Working to high production standards means that, because of the participatory nature of our process, we are able to produce content for broadcast, cinema and online distribution that is unique in its identity and insight. For more info on licensing or exhibiting Hi8us South content please contact us.
