TAGMAP

Tagmap is a unique interactive mapping project on the web created specifically for young people to engage creatively with questions of identity, territory, and their environment. It was originally developed as a pilot youth consultation project around the projected Olympic site in the Lea Valley.

Tagmap Devon used a Tagmap site as an interactive and creative consultation project to engage young people living on the Devon’s Estate in Bromley by Bow in the process of redesigning their estate.

During the project participants were encouraged to express their ideas and opinions through a variety of creative media - digital film, photography and animated design. They also worked with an architect/facilitator to explore potential plans for both the interior and exterior refurbishment of the buildings and the surrounding environment.

Using a series of maps, Tagmap displays the results of young people’s work of the estate and its surrounding environment. Young people have promoted the site to their parents and the wider community and have invited the community to interact with the site and comment on the young people’s ideas and opinions. They have also presented their ideas to the Estate Refurbishment Group, made up of representatives from the housing association, architects/planners, the local estate and community groups.

We are currently exploring the potential to develop the Tagmap model as a generic tool  for wider consultation with young people, which can be used by a range of agencies and providers.
