Delivered in partnership with the East End Film Festival, 35 young people from across the five Olympic boroughs of London produced a series of short films that, through the voices of 1948 competitors and young 2012 hopefuls explore and compare memories of 1948 and the dreams and hopes for 2012.

35 young people were recruited at a day long workshop organised by the East End Film Festival attended by more 150 young people from the 5 boroughs in which all of the attendees were able to engage in taster workshops in film, animation and music for film. Skillset and other career advisers were also on hand to provide insights into developing careers in the film industries. Hi8us and the East End Film Festival collaborated to select 35 young people from those in attendance who went on to attend a week long training workshop led by our team of professional filmmakers with addresses from athletes that participated in the 1948 games, young stars of modern athletics and the celebrated director of ‘Atonement’ and ‘The Soloist’, Jo Wright.

5 teams of filmmakers were given access to Olympic venues and training centres and were invited into the homes of some of the veterans to shoot their material with support from the professional filmakers. The resulting films will be premiered at the Barbican Centre in July as part of Create 2010, the Five Boroughs’ annual Cultural Olympiad festival.

Supported by the Five Boroughs, the London Development Agency, the London Borough of Tower Hamlets Olympic Unit and Paralympic TV.
